Understanding Sports Injuries
Sports injuries occur even in the most conditioned, professional athlete. Repetitive stress and lack of cross-training give rise to injuries that are slow onset, but still, greatly reduce optimal performance. Traumatic injuries threaten a person’s capacity to play the sport(s) they love. This can lead to anxiety, a decrease in confidence, and altered body mechanics which increases the time to recover fully. Sports medicine can help athletes recover from such an incident. Physical therapy takes sports medicine that much further by helping athletes to prevent injuries that cause these declines in performance.
Treatment for Sports Injuries
We provide athletes with a personalized plan of care that is no different than what MLB, NFL, or NBA players receive. Uniquely, we have all been former athletes and have great insight into how to build confidence in our patients. We have also provided care for athletes who have played for:
- Seattle Seahawks
- Bellevue College, women’s soccer
- University of Washington, basketball
- Washington State University, football, and baseball
- Seattle University, volleyball
- CageSport MMA, competitive mixed martial arts
- Seattle Thunderbirds, hockey
- Seattle Mixtape, Ultimate Frisbee
- Highline Community College, softball & basketball
Each patient and athlete seeking sports therapy will have a tailored, sport-specific physical therapy program. We create these programs, including but not limited to manual therapy, biomechanical analysis, and dynamic exercises. The modalities listed above address dimensional balance, proprioception, strength, and mobility; all key characteristics of optimizing performance.
